watched "citizen kane" for the first time last night. Good movie, amazing that it was made way back in 1941 when Orson Welles was only 26, but it has been listed as the American film institutes #1 movie of all time ever since the list came out. I can't really say it's the best of all time. Good, not great.

Okay, so, I got it wrong. It was Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End. It was great! Especially, the last hour. But I am a "Pirates" fan. Don't know if you are. Also playing last night was Ratatoulli. Great movie for the kids or the family. Have you seen either one yet? And if so, what did you think?

HollywoodLand -
An exploration of fame and identity, inspired by one of Hollywood's most infamous real-life mysteries.
June 16, 1959. The glamour of Tinseltown permanently fades for actor George Reeves, the heroic Man of Steel on TV's Adventures of Superman, as the actor dies in his Hollywood Hills home. Felled by a single gunshot wound, Reeves leaves behind a fiancée - aspiring starlet Leonore Lemmon - and millions of fans who are shocked by his death. But it is his grieving mother, Helen Bessolo, who will not let the questionable circumstances surrounding his demise go unaddressed.
Helen seeks justice, or at least answers. The Los Angeles Police Department closes the case, but Helen hires - for $50 a day - private detective Louis Simo. Simo soon ascertains that the torrid affair Reeves had with Toni Mannix, the wife of MGM studio executive Eddie Mannix, might hold the key to the truth.
But truth and justice are not so easily found in Hollywood. Simo pursues dangerous and elusive leads in both high and low places and, in trying to turn up the heat, risks getting burned. The detective also uncovers unexpected connections to his own life as the case turns more personal and he learns more about Reeves himself. Behind the icon was a complex man who gave his life to Hollywood in more ways than one.

Did anyone say Deadwood? This is not a TV show, it's a religion. Hands down, the best show I've ever seen and my wife who had to be dragged kicking and screaming to watch the first episode, is just as big a fan as I. The fact that this is the last season (not counting the two movies they are doing) breaks my heart. If I ever meet the guy who plays Al Swearengen, I'm throwing my underwear to him.

Well, here we are at BMI and enjoying every minute of it. We watched an incredible documentary on Charles Bukowski two nights ago on TMC and anyone that wants a window into his amazing life should watch it. We were in the middle of moving/organizing our books (with many fine beverages) so I don't remember the exact title but it's well worth the insightful watching (c'mon you might be watching a Cops marathon wishing the meth-head idiot with the achey-breaky mullet gets pepper-sprayed). Check it out. Beats the shoot out of American Idol (or anything the university poets have given us for the last 80 years).

OK, to blog Brokeback Mountain it takes a man (non gay & married) to evaluate it. I was apprehensive about the movie, First off the cinema photography was excellent and location was perfect for this movie. OK, now to the heart of the matter. Brokeback Mountain is the story of a different type of love for the ages. It starts out in 1963 well before the Vietnam war. Two cowboys get hired to watch of all things sheep on brokeback mountain. They get drunk and one thing leads to another and they uncover feelings for each other. They part company after brokeback and each marries and starts families. They “see” each other throughout the next 20 years while still living their semi-normal lives. Randy Quaid has a great part in this movie as their boss as well as Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries). This would not be a movie I would purchase, but I know why Ang Lee got his nomination for this movie. If you can watch this movie with a semi-open mind you will enjoy it.

Rob and I watched The Weatherman with Nicholas Cage. Most of what we watch is rentals. Going to movies is frequently inconvenient. As always, Nicholas Cage's acting was good but the story line was just bizarre. I think the writer's need to go back to school and learn how to write a story that progresses in a credible fashion and doesn't bore you to death with the same ole crap until the last 15 minutes. During the movie, I asked my husband (because he's the "keep it cool" one), "is this movie making you feel tense just because the characters seem to be chasing each other in circles. He said yes. Now I know the family is dysfunctional but my gosh, I'm surprised these people know how to feed themselves. If you've seen it or if you do see it, notice how they change Nicolase's makeup when they transform his pathetic look to a somewhat normal looking guy. Even in the end, he didn't look like no Bryant Gumbal to me.

Thought I'd watch the Oscar winning movie "Crash". I totally agree, it is TRASH. Considering the writer is fixated on the shock value of the "F" word I'd say this person has no talent. I turned it off. Guess it's hollywood just making, once again, their point that freedom of speech does not equal class.
